The Groucho Club: Membership Code of Conduct

The Groucho Club prides itself on being a vibrant, inclusive, and creative community where members can relax, connect, and collaborate. To ensure that our club remains a welcoming and respectful space for everyone, we have established this Membership Code of Conduct. By adhering to these principles, members contribute to the unique atmosphere that defines The Groucho Club. 

1. Respect and Inclusivity 

  • Treat all members, guests, and staff with respect, dignity, and kindness, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or ability. 
  • The club fosters an environment of inclusivity and tolerance; discriminatory language, harassment, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. 
  • Respect the diversity of opinions, lifestyles, and creative expressions within the club. Disagreements should be handled with civility and professionalism. 

2. Appropriate Behaviour 

  • Conduct yourself with integrity and courtesy while on club premises or representing the club externally. 
  • Refrain from disruptive behaviour, including excessive noise, inappropriate language, or conduct that may disturb the experience of other members or guests.
  • Alcohol consumption should remain responsible and align with the club’s safe and respectful environment. Illegal substances are strictly prohibited on the premises. 
  • Any form of physical altercations, threatening behaviour, or verbal abuse will result in immediate action, including removal from the premises and review of membership. 

3. Privacy and Confidentiality 

  • Respect the privacy of fellow members, guests, and staff. Do not discuss, share, or publish private conversations, personal details, or sensitive information without explicit consent. 
  • Photography and video recording are prohibited unless explicitly authorised by club management for specific events or initiatives. 
  • Do not disclose or share any club-related matters, such as member lists or confidential events, without prior approval. 

4. Use of Club Facilities 

  • Treat the club’s facilities, artwork, and furnishings with care and respect. Intentional damage to property may result in financial penalties and/or membership termination. 
  • Follow the rules and guidelines for specific spaces, including dining areas, bars, and private event spaces, to ensure equitable access and comfort for all. 
  • Mobile phones must be used discreetly; loud calls or video conferencing is prohibited to preserve the club's ambiance. 

5. Guest Policy 

  • Each member may bring up to four guests at a time under their membership privileges. Larger groups may require prior approval from management with 48-hour notice. 
  • Members are fully responsible for the behaviour of their guests while on club premises. It is the member's duty to ensure that their guests are aware of and adhere to the club’s Code of Conduct, including rules on respectful behaviour, dress code, and privacy. 
  • Guests must not be left unattended on the premises at any time. If a member leaves the club while their guest remains, this will be considered a breach of the Guest Policy and may result in membership review. 
  • In line with the club’s licensing requirements, members must provide the first and last name of each guest at the time of signing them in. This is mandatory and ensures compliance with our legal obligations.
  • Guests are expected to follow all club policies, including appropriate behaviour, respect for staff and other members, and the responsible use of facilities. Any misconduct by a guest may impact the host member’s status. 
  • Guests may only access club facilities when accompanied by the member. 6. Dispute Resolution 
  • Disagreements or conflicts between members should be resolved amicably and respectfully. If necessary, club management may be called upon to mediate disputes. 
  • Personal grievances should not escalate into public disputes on club premises or through social media. 

7. Feedback and Complaints 

  • Feedback is essential to our continuous improvement. Members are encouraged to share constructive comments and suggestions directly with the Membership Team or Management at any time. Whether it's about services, facilities, or events, your input is highly valued. 
  • Any concerns, disputes, or complaints should be escalated directly to the Membership Team or Management. Members should avoid addressing grievances publicly in the club or through social media, as this can disrupt the club’s atmosphere. 
  • Once a complaint is raised, the club will: 
  • Acknowledge the issue promptly. o Investigate the matter thoroughly. 
  • Provide a resolution or response in a timely and transparent manner. 
  • The Groucho Club has a zero-tolerance policy for aggressive, abusive, or disrespectful behaviour toward staff. All feedback and complaints must be communicated respectfully and constructively.
  • Any member displaying aggressive or disrespectful behaviour toward staff may face membership suspension or other disciplinary action. This ensures a safe and positive working environment for our team. 

8. Compliance with Laws and Club Policies 

  • Members are expected to abide by all applicable laws while on club premises or attending club-related events. 
  • Members must comply with the terms of their membership agreement, including payment of dues and adherence to club policies. 

9. Consequences for Breach of Conduct 

To maintain the integrity and reputation of The Groucho Club, any violation of this code will be taken seriously. Consequences may include: 
  • Informal Warning: For minor infractions, a verbal or written reminder of club expectations. 
  • Formal Review: For repeated or serious misconduct, the incident will be reviewed by club management, with possible suspension of membership. 
  • Termination of Membership: Severe or persistent breaches may result in permanent termination of membership. 

10. Commitment to Community 

By joining The Groucho Club, members commit to contributing positively to the club’s creative, welcoming, and inspiring environment. 

Acknowledgment 

All members agree to this Code of Conduct upon joining and renewing their membership. This document may be updated periodically to reflect the evolving values and needs of The Groucho Club community.
